To be used for mordanting in natural dyeing.
ALUM - Potassium aluminium sulphate
Guide only: For 1 Kg of wool use 250 gms of alum and 60 gms of Cream of Tarter.
(Cream of tarter is used to heighten the colour.)
The wool will become sticky if too much alum is used.
Leave the soaked wool rolled up in a towel for 2 or 3 days before drying as this allows the alum to penetrate the wool.
For recipes, we recommend two books, either the Ashford Book of Dyeing or Colours From Nature by Jenny Dean.
