Aluminium Acetate
Mordant
Use when dying cellular fibres and fabrics
Guide:
Use 5% of the Aluminium acetate per weight of goods. WOG
Soak goods for 12 to 24 hours dyeing.
A tannin bath of 8% tannin WOG before mordanting helps with wash fastness.
Cream of tarter in dye bath can heighten the colour.
(Use Aluminium Sulphate when dying protein fibre. (Alum) 25%WOG)
Aluminum acetate is the preferred mordant for cellulose fibres as it helps to achieve brighter colours on linen, cotton, hemp, nettle, and other plant-based fibres.
- Aluminum acetate is a very lightweight powder so it is necessary to wear a dust mask while working with it.
