Dyes pinks, salmons, apricots and dark reds
Madder is a beautiful, permanent red dye from the roots of a pretty, viney, low growing herb.
You will need to mordent the fabric first you could use Alum, and Cream of Tartar. The purpose of the mordent is to help the dye itself to adhere to the fabric. Different mordents can create different colours, as well.
First quality whole roots make dyeing with this traditional dye easy. We like to steep the roots, add fibre and simmer at low temperatures to develop a dark red. We use 100% on the weight of the goods for deepest cranberry to garnet shades.
