Dyes pinks, salmons, apricots and dark reds
Madder is a beautiful, permanent red dye from the roots of a pretty, viney, low growing herb.
You will need to mordent the fabric first you could use Alum, and Cream of Tartar. The purpose of the mordent is to help the dye itself to adhere to the fabric. Different mordents can create different colours, as well.
For recipes, we recommend two books, either the Ashford Book of Dyeing or Colours From Nature by Jenny Dean.
